Occupazioni
In recent years in major urban centres, especially in Southern Europe, a new wave of 'occupations' is taking place. Groups of migrants, most of them refugees from war zones in Africa (such as Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia) are occupying abandoned buildings with the collaboration of grassroots political groups and activists from the ‘centri sociali’. These occupations are part of a strategy of survival, but they are also a way of becoming ‘visible’ in a urban territory which neglects and excludes ‘economically useless' individuals.
